OUR LADY OF FATIMA

CATHOLIC CHURCH

Aloysius made it and so did I.

November 7, 2006

You might have gathered from the previous column that I am somewhat of a psychic... (actually a couple of parishioners couldn't cover their tracks well enough for a curious Englishman to suspect something was up). In an e-mail message last Saturday evening entitled: "The Jig is up" (they had read the last column) they wrote:

"it seems that we cannot pull the wool over your eyes or should we say (the carrot)"

The parishioners had arranged a surprise birthday party for me. It was a belated one by a few days. At the end of Mass, I simply announced there would be no catechism because, as I put it: "There is an appointment for us all in the hall." When I arrived I was somewhat perplexed, the surprise carrot cake I had been led to expect wasn't there after all. Finally when everybody arrived, the cake materialized - the photographs tell the rest...

Waiting for our slice of cake We were not disappointed

I had been wondering what I would say to Aloysius when the cake didn't show up but fortunately my fears proved unfounded.
