Le cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard s'apprête à se rendre à Rome pour retravailler, avec d'autres cardinaux, la première mouture du texte relatif à la libéralisation de la messe tridentine en latin. C'est à la demande de BenoîtXVI que les membres de la commission Ecclesia Dei - dont fait partie l'archevêque de Bordeaux - vont saisir ce dossier jusqu'ici confié au seul cardinal Castrillon Hoyos, président de cette commission chargée du dossier des traditionalistes et des lefébvristes. Aucune échéance n'a été fixée.

Depuis Lourdes où sont réunis les évêques de France jusqu'à jeudi, le cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard a expliqué hier que, sur ce dossier, « la première préoccupation du Pape est de renouer le dialogue avec la Fraternité Saint-PieX». Or, a poursuivi Mgr Ricard, « Mgr Bernard Fellay, le supérieur de la Fraternité, a posé deux conditions pour une reprise de ce dialogue :élargir la possibilité de célébrer la messe de saint Pie V et lever les excommunications des quatre évêques », consacrés par Mgr Lefebvre. Le président de la Conférence des évêques a précisé que « tous les évêques de France rejoignent le souci du Pape de cette unité. Et avec lui nous nous posons la question de savoir comment permettre un plus large usage du rite tridentin sans remettre en cause l'unité de l'Église ou l'autorité des évêques ».

Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard is about to leave for Rome to take up, with other cardinals, the first re-working of the text relating to the liberalization of the Tridentine Mass in Latin. It is at the request of Benedict XVI that members of the Ecclesia Dei Commission - of which the Archbishop of Bordeaux is a member - will take up this dossier which until now was entrusted to Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos alone, who presides over this commission charged with the responsibility for the traditionalists and Lefebvrists. No deadline has been set. 

After Lourdes where the bishops of France met in conference until Thursday, Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard explained yesterday that, concerning this dossier, "the first concern of the Pope is to renew the dialog with the Society of Saint Pius X." However, Archbishop Ricard went on, "Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior of the Society laid down two conditions for a resumption of this dialog: to widen the possibility of celebrating the Mass of Saint Pius V and to lift the excommunications of the four bishops", consecrated by Archbishop Lefebvre. The president of the conference of the bishops specified that "all the bishops of France join the concern of the Pope for this unity. And with him we ask ourselves the question to find out how to allow a broader use of the Tridentine Rite without calling into question the unity of the Church or the authority of the bishops."
