Bertone has a Dream
September 1st, 2006

Not yet in Rome and he's already "seeing" things
Over on Whispers in the Loggia (scroll down a bit - I almost missed the story myself) and see Rocco Palmo's latest ! Apparently on the night of August 15 -16, Cardinal Bertone had a dream and the late John Paul II appeared to him (no this isn't a joke). Bertone related the event in Genoa at his parting Mass. A week later he told Pope Benedict. Bertone relates:
"In the dream, the Pope was very old, with his cane and very serene. We spoke of the young (...) I told him that World Youth Day was his most beautiful invention; he was happy [to hear that]."
Bertone asked the Pope for his blessing who responded:
"'I bless you gladly.' I knelt, he gave me his blessing and said 'from now on, do not be afraid.'"
When Cardinal Bertone related the dream to Pope Benedict he responded:
"Don't be afraid, then."
At least the former Pope didn't enquire as to why it was taking so long for his successor to get around to his canonization and declaration as Doctor of the Church etc. etc.
