Text: Jeremias 1:6-10

1.6. “Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child.”

The Spirit of Knowledge had entered. The child of God knows God and knows himself and has grown perfect in the science of the Saints. His words speak of his utter dependence on God.

1:7.” And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee: and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou shalt speak”.

The child seems “hypnotized” by such a loving trust and confidence, that he is “spellbound” by his fathers words.” For thou shalt go” – listening intently, the child, now believes he is strengthened to do whatever his father says.

1:8. “Be not afraid at their presence: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.”

The greatest image of a child is here portrayed. A child is a monument of TRUST!

1:9. “And the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth: and the Lord said to me: Behold I have given my words in thy mouth:”

In this trust, the child instinctively knows, everything his father possesses is his. Children are like that, they think the world revolves around them. A child picks up on his father’s words, even subliminally, they become his very own and they become locked in his very person, forever.

1:10. “Lo, I have set thee this day over the nations, and over kingdoms, to root up, and to pull down, and to waste, and to destroy, and to build, and to plant.”

When you are a child, you do not realize all the wealth, authority, command, prestige, etc. your father may possess, as this child’s Father truly does being God. But it is the nature of loving parents to look at their child, enraptured with their tiny beauty, as you would look at a precious diamond, and see in its every facet a sparkling image of their own. And in those moments they speak to their child. Telling him how great, how very great… he will be…

This prophecy, is attributed to Our Lord’s best friend - St. John the Baptist.

But every thing in Holy Scripture can be applied to each Baptized - child of God … at least in a little way.
